When to Upcycle Your Candle
Once your candle burns down to ½ inch of wax remaining, it's time to stop burning and start upcycling. Never burn a candle below this level for safety reasons.
Step-by-Step: Clean Your Candle Vessel
Method 1: Hot Water Bath (Recommended)
1. Boil water and carefully pour it into your candle jar, filling to just below the rim
2. Let sit for 10-15 minutes as the wax melts and floats to the top
3. Once cooled slightly, the wax will harden on the surface—lift it out in one piece
4. Use needle-nose pliers to grip and gently pull the wick tab from the bottom
5. Wipe the interior with a paper towel to remove residue
6. Wash with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly
Method 2: Freezer Method
1. Place your candle in the freezer for 2-3 hours
2. The wax will contract and should pop out easily
3. Remove the wick tab with pliers
4. Clean any remaining residue with rubbing alcohol
5. Wash and dry completely
Important: Never pour melted wax down your drain—it will solidify and cause clogs. Dispose of wax in the trash.
